Cocoa, which the colonists brought from America to the old continent, literally means "food of the gods", and was used for centuries by Native Americans to increase energy and improve mood. With more than 300 identifiable active components, it is one of the most pleasant and suggestive foods.
The potential benefits of some of its characteristic components have been investigated, theobromine and flavanols being two of them, the latter helping to maintain the elasticity of blood vessels and thus contributing to normal circulation. A supply of only 2.85 g of organic cocoa powder provides 200 mg of flavanols.
Its protein content is very high (27.6 g per 100 g of product, that is, 31% of its energy content). Even greater is its high fibre content, at 32 g per 100 g, (9 g / 100 kcal). It is also very high in copper, iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus and zinc, being particularly high in its content of copper, iron and magnesium. It is very low in sodium (salt).
